Operation Military Child Care (OMCC) - Reduced child care during times of mobilization and deployment
Want help locating quality, affordable child care in your community? Through Operation: Military Child Care, the Department of Defense is reaching out to support your needs! As an Army Reserve (AR) Soldier who is mobilized and deployed in support of the Global War on Terror, your family may be eligible for reduced child care rates at licensed and legally operating centers during your deployment and for up to 60 days after your return.  If you don't already have a child care provider and need help locating one, these fee reductions may help you afford the care you need. This program was just fully launched in March 2005, so there is still plenty of care to go around.  For more information visit www.naccrra.org and complete an online application.  If you need assistance, contact your CYS Regional Coordinator.

Operation Child Care (OCC) - Free child care during R&R
Child care providers have voluntarily teamed up with the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) and with local Resource & Referral Agencies to provide a few hours of free child care for National Guard and Army Reserve personnel during their two weeks of Rest and Recuperation leave from Iraq and Afghanistan. You can plan ahead to have a special date with your spouse, to conduct personal business, or to enjoy other activities, without the worry of who's watching the kids.  During your two-week leave from Operation: Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom you are eligible to receive a minimum of four hours of free child care from dedicated child care providers across the country who have pledged their support by donating their time and services. Since its launch in May 2004, more than 6,000 child care providers and 200 Child Care Resource & Referrals in 37 states have joined the Operation: Child Care effort.  To schedule childcare, Soldiers or family members may contact NACCRRA directly by calling 800-424-2246 or visit www.childcareaware.org  If you need assistance, contact your CYS Regional Coordinator

Soldier/Government Services Administration (GSA) Child Care Subsidy Initiative
Soldier/Government Services Administration (GSA) Child Care Subsidy Initiative is a partnership between GSA and the Army for affordable child care. Active duty Army personnel will be able to use Accredited GSA centers and be charged the same rate they would be charged if they were receiving care on a military installation. The Army National Guard and Army Reserve may also be eligible.

Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood (MCCIYN)
Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood (MCCIYN) is a sister-program to the Operation: Military Child Care program. Both locate and subsidize child care comparable to what a service member would receive on a military installation. OMCC is specifically focused on providing relief to the families of those serving in the Global War on Terror, including Guard and Reserve service members. MCCIYN provides financial support and assistance in locating quality child care for eligible military families who do not have access to the DoD's on-base child care options due to wait listing or geographic location.

How do these Programs Work?

1. The service member, spouse or legal guardian contacts Child Care Aware, a division of the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA), toll-free at (800) 424-2246 or via the web at www.naccrra.org and provides some initial information to determine eligibility and child care needs.
2. When eligibility is determined, a local division of NACCRRA will help locate available child care/school age space.
3. Complete an application. You will need a copy of the service member's military ID and orders, as well as the most recent pay stubs for both the service member and spouse. You will also need the child(ren)'s birth certificate(s).
4. Enrollment process takes about 1-5 business days to complete once application and all required information is received.
5. The family pays a reduced fee directly to the child care/school age program.
6. To assist you in this process, please contact your local Child and Youth Services Regional Coordinator .

Unit Request for Assistance
Child and Youth Services staff members are available to assist units with child care and youth activities at mobilization and deployment briefings, family readiness events, and other unit activities. In effort to facilitate access to these services, unit points-of-contact may complete an AR CYS Unit Assistance Request Form. This form allows units to provide specific details about the event, type of assistance requested, ages, and potential number of children, so that CYS staff can effectively meet the needs of Soldiers and Families who will be in attendance. Forms should be submitted to ARCYS@usar.army.mil
