2007 Army Reserve AFAP Conference Results is echoed by the increase in staff to support Army Reserve Families.

Top 5 Conference Issues
1. Casualty Care Plan (CCP) Awareness
2. Management of Army Reserve (AR) Soldiers Diagnosed in Theater with Mental Health Issues
3. (tied) Eligibility for Army Reserve Education Benefits; Awareness of Army Reserve (AR) Teen Programs
3. (tied) Funding for Lodging in Kind (LIK) during Battle Assemblies; Reimbursement for Travel to Battle Assemblies
4. Local and Regional AFAP Programs for Army Reserve Youth

Top six critical active issues currently in the AFAP system:
1. #465 – Allow RC Soldiers and Family members up to one-year post-mobilization to identify the need for counseling related  to service-connected problems
2. #497 – Allow all Soldiers with at least 10 years of service to distribute their Montgomery GI Bill benefits to their dependents
3. #603 – Mandate standardized combat stress related reintegration training for the Reserve Component Service Members, families and communities throughout the reintegration process
4. #544 – Mandate standardized, developmental FRG training throughout a Soldier’s career, beginning with Basic Training and continuing through the Non-Commissioned Officer’s Education System, Officers’ Education System, and other leadership courses
5. #506 (tied) –  Authorize  retired RC Soldiers the option to receive a reduced rate  of retired pay at  age 50 or wait until age 60 to receive full retired pay
5. #521 (tied) –  Allow in-state tuition rates for military family members who reside in a state on military orders and allow family member to retain “in-state” status, once established
5. #543 (tied) – Authorize and fund a unit- level Family Readiness Group  Support Assistant position

2. Soldiers are receiving more money during deployment
3. Soldiers are more prepared for Mobilization

1. Challenges identifying the symptoms of PTSD & Soldiers resistance to reach out for assistance due to stigmas attached to seeking or needing counseling
2. Lack of predictability for frequency and lengths of mobilization
3. Soldier and Family involvement in Family Readiness
4. Reassigned Soldiers (Process, identifying, tracking support)
5. Soldiers do not clearly understand the current role of Family Programs
