Programs for Spouses and Children

Military Spouse Day is May 8th, 2009
Celebrated on May 8th, Military Spouse Day is just one day of the year in which the immeasurable contributions spouses make to the truereadiness of the force are recognized. Take the opportunity to formally recognize our Army Reserve spouses and show them our deep gratitude – for their service, their sacrifice, and for their unyielding devotion to our Soldiers and the Army Reserve.

Special programs are being organized on some military installations.  As many Army Reserve spouses are located in the communities far from military installations, take a moment to call a military spouse and thank them for their contributions.

Military Spouse of the Year

Readers of Military Spouse vote on the Military Spouse of the year to be announced prior to Military Spouse Day. The voting is already closed but valuable resources related to deployment, relationships, family, money, career and other topics are available from the magazine and the Military Spouse website.

Free Counseling from Military OneSource

Army Reserve Enrichment Camps

The primary goal of the Army Reserve Enrichment Camps is to provide a fun and rewarding experience for Army Reserve youth ages 8-15 years. The Army Reserve has partnered with accredited camps and national youth organizations to make this unique opportunity possible.

Army Reserve Enrichment Camps will:

  1. Foster relationships between AR-connected youth
  2. Create leadership and teambuilding opportunities at a local level
  3. Connect Military Families with premiere youth development organizations
  4. Equip youth with the skills necessary to effectively cope with deployment of a parent and increase resiliency
  5. Afford campers an opportunity to reap the intrinsic rewards of community service
  6. Offer a wide range of diverse, interesting, and skill-building activities
  7. Create a program that can be self-sustaining and not dependent on parent’s deployments status

This year’s AR CYSS Enrichment Camps will be held for one-week at each of the following locations:

  • Tulsa, OK
  • Loretto, MN
  • Princeton, IN
  • Huguenot, NY
  • Boulder Creek and Julian, CA
  • Sandwich, MA
  • Alpine, AL
  • King, NC
  • Graford and Trinity, TX
  • Jamesville, VA
  • Danielsville, GA
  • Oahu, HI
  • Saipan
  • Port Murray, NJ
  • Centerville, MD

Each site will host 30-100 campers from the surrounding region. Campers will have the opportunity to interact with other Army Reserve connected youth, learn about the unique factors associated with being an Army Reserve dependent, and most of allhave fun! Ages and dates vary by location. Visit www.arfp.org/AREC for all the details and to register. Spaces will fill quickly!

Reunion Tips for Soldiers and Families

Begin by realizing that the Reunion with your Soldier is more than just coming home. Research shows that Reunions can cause more stress in people’s lives than a Deployment. That’s not to say that returning Soldiers and their Family and friends aren’t happy about the Reunion, they’re usually ecstatic. The stress comes from the changes. Visit the Army Reserve Family Programs web portal to read more about what to expect.

Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program - Post Deployment Event Schedules

A list of dates and events for the 3rd and 4th Quarter is posted on the Army Reserve Family Programs Web Portal. There are seven different types of events that are for the Soldier, the Family only, and the Soldier and the Family together. These events address everything from the Alert Phase to Pre-Deployment to Family Only programs during Deployment and a number of Post Deployment activities.

Check out the schedule for your region and register online at the Yellow Ribbon section of the web portal.

Contact Family Programs: The Army Reserve Family Programs Web Portal, www.arfp.org, has been designed to help the Family, Friends and Employers of Army Reserve Soldiers find all the information they need.
